Original 1939 Herman Seid image of the young Rookie Ted Williams with the Boston Red Sox. If this photo looks familiar, it should. It was certainly taken at the same time as the famous Charles Conlon image of Ted Williams. The hat has the same bends in it, and Williams even has the same facial blemishes common among "kids" his age in the same spots as the Conlon photo. Aside from a slightly different angle, they look almost identical, but we feel this one is even better! With a deep black background and wonderful use of light tones to accentuate his face, Herman Seid has outdone the master and this is a superior image to that taken by Conlon. Ted is on the verge of superstardom and the glance he gives is a mix between confidence in his abilities and uneasiness about the grand stage he now finds himself on. Condition is quite nice with a only mild handling wear and a few slight bends (only visible when the image is tilted), a miniscule corner chip and a small pinhole at the top. The quality of the image is perfect! With all due respect to Charles Conlon, THIS is the finest Ted Williams photo in the World!
